Family Adventures on Four Wheels: Traveling with a Toddler in a Motorhome

In an exclusive interview with Clesana, YouTuber Freundship talks about his family road trip with a toddler and explains how the Clesana C1 makes their daily life on the road easier.

Dominik, wll known as Freundship, isn’t just a successful influencer and YouTuber—he’s also a true van life enthusiast. Under the motto “Just do it!”, he transforms vans and campers into unique DIY projects. Most recently, he restored his charming vintage camper van, “Henrietta,” with great attention to detail. Together with his partner Meike and their little adventurer Jona, they’re enjoying an unforgettable three-month journey in it. Currently traveling in Morocco, they’ve already spent a few weeks on the road and are telling Clesana about their experiences so far.

Clesana: How did your child react to life in a motorhome?

Dominik: Jona had no trouble at all adjusting to it, because he’s never known any other way of life than living in a home on wheels. At home, we live in a converted RV! The only thing he doesn’t quite like yet is all the driving—so we take regular breaks, which our two four-legged friends really enjoy.

Clesana: What routines have you developed for your child when you’re out and about?

Dominik: We’ve established set times for meals, walks, and naps. These routines work really well and we can almost always stick to them, because on this trip, everything revolves around the child’s well-being anyway. A structured daily routine is essential for all of us!

Clesana: What has you found to be particularly helpful in terms of being self-sufficient while traveling?

Dominik:The Clesana toilet we installed in our van makes us 100% self-sufficient. Since we don’t need any extra water or special disposal stations, we can park practically anywhere—that’s a huge plus for our mobile lifestyle.

Clesana: Why did you choose the Clesana C1?

Dominik: I’m familiar with all the common camper toilet solutions and have used them myself—but I wasn’t really satisfied with any of them, especially when it came to the unpleasant odor. The Clesana C1 has won us over with its odor-neutral functionality, easy disposal, and the prospect of future bio-based liners that are even more environmentally friendly..

Clesana: How easy was it to install the Clesana C1 in your RV?

Dominik: Installation was super easy, especially if you plan for it from the start and run the necessary cables. With the innovative Clesana Power Management system, which is now available, installation would have been even easier.

Clesana: How does the Clesana C1 make your daily life easier?

Dominik: In our day-to-day van life, we can’t imagine life without Clesana. For all families dealing with smelly diapers: You can simply seal them in the bags if you don’t have a suitable disposal option at the moment, and dispose of them later. The ultra-sturdy and odor-proof bags make all the difference!

Clesana: What advice do you have for other parents who are planning a longer RV trip?

Dominik: My advice to all parents who want to take a longer trip in a motorhome with a baby or toddler: Don’t stress out and don’t bring too many toys—the kids will be playing outside all day anyway. Jona’s favorite toys right now are two big seashells from Spain.

Clesana: Where are you headed next?

Dominik: We’re currently still traveling in Morocco, but we’re slowly making our way back to Europe. Next on the itinerary are Portugal, Spain, and France—then our journey will take us back to what we affectionately call “Friendship’s Paradise.”

About Clesana

Clesana is an innovative Swiss company that is redefining mobile sanitation solutions. With the Clesana C1, the company has developed a weldable toilet that offers the highest levels of hygiene, comfort, and safety thanks to a thermo-pressure welding process. Waste, hygiene products, and similar items are securely sealed in a high-barrier film and can be easily disposed of with general waste. This allows for independence from supply and disposal stations.

The Clesana system has its origins in the medical field and was developed to protect Swiss waterways from contamination by pharmaceutical residues, hormones, or other chemicals. As a result, the Clesana C1 sets the highest standards for hygiene.

The Fraunhofer Institute has confirmed that Clesana bags by far best meet the requirements for odor barrier and leak resistance. The high barrier ensures that waste and other contents are securely contained. As a result, not only users but also everyone involved in the waste disposal infrastructure has no contact with the bag’s contents.

The Clesana C1 requires no water, thereby conserving this valuable resource. It also contains absolutely no harmful chemical additives. A bio-based high-barrier liner made from biomass and recycled materials will soon be available. In addition, the C1 is produced entirely in Switzerland, which minimizes its carbon dioxide footprint.
