Moving forward. Leaving nothing behind.

At Clesana we are dedicated to our very own ideal of responsible technology. Because we see it as our responsibility to design and craft perfect hygiene solutions that last and perform with the greatest reliability, and all that in the best ecological conscience. Introducing the C1, we have achieved this ideal: a unique symbiosis of progressivity and sustainability.

Clesana’s mobile sanitary solution works as easily and reliably as the stationary toilet in your home – but fully independent of water supply, faeces tanks and drains. On the press of a button excretions and toilet wastes are automatically sealed in barrier foil and collected within the toilet’s underbody, absolutely odour- and germ-free even for long periods of time. This is how Clesana provides perfect hygiene, wherever it is needed: on camping trips far away from supply stations, on boat trips far away from harbours, in remote mountain cabins far away from power and water grids, or in caring for people, for whom the way to the toilet has become just to far. The C1 is there for you – and even after long periods in standby mode immediately ready to use. This is how Clesana contributes to your personal independence: relief without an urge, anywhere and anytime. Learn more now about the many areas of use for the C1.

No flush water, no waste water – at Clesana we are not trying, but really drying mobile toilet technology, with our completely waterless C1 toilet. The ground-breaking thermo-pressure-method does without water supply and water disposal. So, by choosing the C1 you can actively contribute to protecting one of our planets most valuable resources. Not only will you help to reduce drinking water consumption and the energy-intensive water purification in sewage plants. As Clesana does away with the sanitary additives used in common chemical toilets, hygiene now comes without the price of water contamination. Learn more now about functional details and use of the C1.

Even the most sophisticated sewage plant cannot filter all toxic remains from waste water. Inevitably, pharmaceutical residues, hormons and chemicals enter waters and grounds, eventually becoming part of the environmental cycle. With the C1, Clesana has found a reliable way to break this vicious cycle: the welded sanitary bags securely holding excretions and toilet wastes can be discarded as simple household waste, ready to be burned at incineration plants for energy production and district heating. This prevents the acidification and contamination of soils. At the same time the production of our hygienic foil liners consumes far less energy than the production of sanitary additives used for conventional chemical toilets. As you can see: the C1 leaves a perfect impression with regard to preserving our air quality – by leaving a considerably smaller CO2 footprint.

For comparison:
5 uses* with multilayer foil correspond to the CO2 footprint of …
the procution of one single glas of wine (0,2l) or two small bottles of beer (0,33l)
a 1,4 km drive in a camper van (Fiat Ducato 130 Multijet, Diesel, Euro 6**)

* 5 uses correspond to the average use per person and day
** Ø 0,263 kgCO2/km, surveyed by Deutsche Umwelthilfe e.V., April 2021

We know what you might be thinking: acting with ecological awareness comes with sacrifices. At Clesana we prove that true sustainability and best performance are not mutually exclusive. The outstanding eco-compatibility of our C1 toilet is shown best when comparing the overall eco-balance, from production to use and waste disposal. For this, we rely on the proven balancing method ReCiPe*, which is aimed at evaluating the impact of products on people and the environment holistically. Corresponding studies have shown that Clesana surpasses conventional chemical toilets in all four major categories of environmental impact – including climate change as well as acidification of soils, water contamination and not least possible health risks to humans. As an example: the barriere foil technology inside Clesana’s C1 leads to a CO2-footprint 10% smaller than that of conventional chemical toilets. And we are constantly working on new sanitary solutions that are even more sustainable.

Medicinal hygiene standards are part of our DNA, as the revolutionary working principle of the C1 was derived from medical engineering. Designed originally as part of a project for the Swiss Federal Office of Environment, aimed at protecting waters from pharmaceutical residues, hormons and other chemicals, the Clesana system today is already in use in hospitals. Driven by this innovative boost, all technical components were continuously enhanced for the application in other areas, like caravaning, boating, in care facilities and nursing homes, civil protection, in homes and far from home. So, whereever you encounter a Clesana toilet it will meet even the highest demand of hygiene.

At Clesana we are convinced: true perfection is only achieved when things really get easier. That’s why we created a sanitary solution that offers the same ease of use as the stationary toilet in your home, with installation, retrofitting and setup being a child’s play. Moreover, the Clesana system is close to maintenance-free, even after long idle periods, and only requires quick surface cleaning for lasting hygiene. Not least, disposal of excretions and toilet wastes just couldn’t be any easier. The collected hygiene bags can be discarded as household waste, without any worries about getting in contact with the contents, without any bad odours and without any handling of water connections, faeces tanks or sewers.

By the way: the C1 even handles toilet wastes like feminine hygiene products or diapers without complaint.

Where mobile sanitary solutions are needed, room is often scarce. This is where Clesana’s C1 comes into play. Independent from water supply and sewage systems, you can place the hygiene system with greatest flexibility, whereever you find room for it. And as the C1 also doesn’t need faeces tanks, you will even gain valuable space – something, that not least manufacturers of camper vans and boats will love, as room partioning now becomes that much more versatile. And if you are among those who are up for a little DIY work, retrofitting of your vehicle now becomes easier than ever. The C1 is also a prime alternative to fixed water toilets in small lodges and cabins away from supply networks, and a truly “little” helper in domestic care. The Clesana C1 outperforms conventional chemical in all major impact categories:

  • 1. up to 10% smaller CO2-footprint [kg CO2e] with barrier foil liner
  • 2. up to 124% less terrestrial acidification[kg SO2e]**
  • 3. up to 63% lower ecotoxidity in fresh water [kg 1,4-DCBe]**
  • 4. up to 115% lower human toxidity [kg 1,4-DCBe]**
  • 5. ca. 170l of water saved as a valuable resource

In comparsion: 5 uses*** with barrier foil equal the CO2-footprint of just the production of 1 glas of wine (0,2l) or 2 bottles of beer (0,33l) or a driving distance of 1,4 km in a camper van (Fiat Ducato 130 Multijet, Diesel, Euro 6**).
