Swiss Made since 2009.
A wide range of different chemicals are used in private households, in the healthcare sector, in industry and commerce and also in various leisure activities. This impairs water quality and should be avoided in accordance with environmental protection legislation. In hospitals and care homes, a newly developed special toilet makes an effective contribution to this. The birth of Clesana AG (formerly CLOsac AG).
The starting signal is a call for tenders from the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (BAFU) for the development of a special toilet for hospitals as part of environmental technology funding.
The first patent application for the sealing mechanism is filed in Switzerland in 2011. Many more will follow.

2015 – The Rollac 1.0.
It was high time for the world’s first waterless, mobile toilet. It opens up a completely new dimension in hospital hygiene. The Rollac 1.0 works without a water supply, rolls on four wheels and can be conveniently pushed to the patient’s bedside. A tear-resistant, continuous high-barrier film stored under the toilet seat lies snugly against the seat and bowl. After using the toilet, this film is automatically sealed at the touch of a button to form an odour-proof and waterproof bag that can be disposed of properly. The Rollac 1.0 already offers enormous advantages at this stage. It is hygienic, odourless, safe, mobile, convenient and protects our Swiss waters.
Dr Michael Schärer, then Head of the BAFU Water Division, Water Protection Section, to the hospital magazine CLINICUM:
“This mobile waterless toilet can be used in hospitals to keep human faeces contaminated with medicines and X-ray contrast media from individual patients or certain patient groups out of the water cycle. This new technology can thus make a further contribution to protecting our waters.”

2018 – Erwin Hymer Group.
The EHG innovation team discovers the Clesana and reports the innovative idea to the management. It quickly becomes clear that this could be a real revolution in the field of mobile hygiene. Clesana is to become part of EHG. While EHG later became the property of the American Thor Group, Clesana remained in the possession of the Hymer family. This has not changed to this day.

2021 – Curtain up for Clesana C1.
The first series-produced Clesana C1 will be unveiled at CARAVAN SALON Düsseldorf in late summer 2021. This will allow customers to see the first mobile sealing toilet in caravanning live for the first time and convince themselves of its handling. Lots of feedback from potential customers encourages the team. From then on, customer feedback will be an important driver for Clesana. The first pre-orders are accepted and the start of production in Switzerland is planned.

2022 – Series launch of the Clesana C1
Start of production for the Clesana C1 in Diepoldsau. After intensive concept and feasibility studies, the lengthy design and development phase, the validation phase and pilot production, it’s now: chop-chop, Clesana. This is where the success story of the first mobile welded toilet in the caravan segment begins. A service unit is installed in Grabs, where the research and development department is based. Innovation, quality and customer-orientation go hand in hand at Clesana.

2024 – 20,000 sold units of Clesana C1 into the caravaning market
The highlights in 2024 are coming thick and fast. Over 500 Clesana retail partners offer the Clesana in the German-speaking market alone and provide expert contacts for the product. Over 20,000 units are on the market at the start of the CARAVAN SALON in Düsseldorf and demand continues to rise steadily. Clesana expands to Japan and Australia with reliable partners and supplies 40 well-known manufacturers as well as the first large series OEM in the caravan sector. Up to 300 units now leave the production facility every week. The year is crowned with the German ‘Supplier of the Year 2024’ award from the German Caravanning Trade Association (DCHV), as well as the ‘Best Brand 2025’ award from Germany´s most popular caravanning magazine “promobil”.
